In the 70s, Chantal Thomass was the first designer to show underwear on the catwalk. She approached lingerie like a fashion accessory, creating silk jersey vests in every colour with matching briefs. She then added basques and garter belts to her collections offered in materials and fabrics adapted from ready-to-wear. With this desire for more feminine and sophisticated fashion, in 1975 Chantal Thomass created a new brand to which she gave her name. It made her famous, in the same respect as designers such as Sonia Rykiel, Thierry Mugler, Marithé et François Girbaud, etc.
A woman, a designer – In 1981, creative director Benoît Devarrieux came up with the idea of making Chantal Thomass a myth by communicating about her character. With her, he created the image of a woman who appealed to other women, using the designer’s very strong style. Chantal Thomass thus became the muse for her own brand, highlighting her personality as much as her designs.
A city, Paris – From Saint-Germain-des-Prés to rue Saint-Honoré, Chantal Thomass is the most Parisian designer. Like Paris, with her, everything is a question of rhythm, movement and style. She perfectly embodies the image of the elegant, dynamic city-dweller who roams the city in search of novelty. A woman at the heart of thrilling city and life.
Boldness – This word alone could sum up the Chantal Thomass spirit. The boldness of creating her own fashion brand at the age of 18. The boldness of making women want to reclaim seduction for themselves. The boldness of inventing lace tights, prompting manufacturers to innovate. The boldness of transforming underwear into outerwear. The boldness of creating an unmistakeable fashion style without becoming trapped in it.
Timelessness – Revisiting codes, fashions and eras to reinvent today’s modern woman. If Chantal Thomass women are timeless, it’s because the Chantal Thomass style is too! When the designer reinvents the fashion codes of Toulouse-Lautrec’s French cancan, 20s illustrators or 50s pin-ups, it is to enhance today’s heroines : strong, smart women, who are often artists such as Josephine Baker, George Sand and Mistinguett.
Couture know-how – Imagined by the designer’s keen eye and developed by the skilful fingers in her workshop, Chantal Thomass products are not only wonders to admire, but are also incredibly comfortable to wear and always fit perfectly.
Much more than lingerie – Inspired by the Chantal Thomass brand values, Grosfilley, one of France’s most accomplished luxury eyewear manufacturers have launched the Chantal Thomass eyewear collection. A real fashion and seductive accessory, glasses now come to complete the brand universe to perfection. Available from June 2013 and exclusively distributed in Australia by Eurostyle Eyewear, will be 21 new optical styles inspired by the fashion, boldness and the sophistication of Chantal Thomass.
